Navigating a Tough Economy
Career services has told me that because of the economy, companies are scaling back. How should I manage my job search in light of this?
Answer
This is a tough year for students because word on the street is that top companies have pulled back significantly. You need to go to as many events on campus as possible. Meet and impress as many company reps as possible and follow up with them throughout the process. You’ll have to really impress here so when you read something about their company, send it to them in an email and let them know that you thought of them when you read the piece.
At the same time, continue to network like crazy—with your peers, your family, your friends, the friends of your family. You will have to go the extra mile in a tough economy like this and it will pay off.
