Turn On, Tune In

Now that nearly everyone has an iPod growing out of their ears, the term podcast doesn’t sound quite as geeky as when it first launched. And in the past few years, the variety and quality of podcasts have really picked up—meaning there’s little excuse for being out of touch with the business-world zeitgeist. We weeded through the vast tangle of podcasts to find a few of the most helpful.
Boston Globe Bizcast
Not only is “Bizcast” fun to say, but the Globe’s weekly series is a good way to learn about the latest business trends. Lead by tech editor D.C. Denison, Bizcast has a journalistic feel, focusing on topics fresh from the paper’s headlines and featuring Globe reporters and newsmakers.
Businessweek’s The Welch Way
If the intro jingle doesn’t get you pumped, then the all-in-the-family banter of The Welch Way will. The podcast’s namesake is, of course, that of the one-and-only Jack Welch, but also features his wife, Suzy, (formerly editor-in-chief of Harvard Business Review). The Welches answer listener questions and debate the issues as only husband and wife can.
This Week in Tech (TWiT)
Hosted by “The Tech Guy,” acclaimed technology journalist Leo Laporte, TWiT features a weekly roundtable discussion with other experts about all that is tech. The hour-plus program sounds less like a news report and more like a discussion among friends, veering from BlackBerry-toting presidents to the two-year wait for a Tesla.
Marketing Over Coffee
Chock full of useful info, this podcast explores modern marketing solutions and the underlying issues of new media, with just a pinch of techiness. The program is recorded every Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. in a Natick, Massachusetts coffee shop. And, at 20 minutes, it’s just long enough to down a cup of joe.
