Be Schedule-Smart

I notice a lot of company info sessions and workshops at my school’s career services department.  I can’t go to everything so how do I select the ones I should go to?

Answer

Workshops:

You have to know your strengths and weaknesses.  If interviewing is a weakness, attend the interview workshops and make them a priority.  If resume writing is one of your strengths, pass on those.

Company Information Sessions:

Make a list of the top 10 companies you are interested in and attend those company information sessions if at all possible.  This is a tough economy and you need to hedge your bets.  Meet and collect business cards from as many individuals as you can, because you want to follow-up with them the next day.  Keep a log of who you met where and to whom you are most drawn.  Start to number your “best” companies to those you are “least” interested in.  Your goal would be to get three offers, so you’ve got your work cut out for you.
