Posting a Resume-in-Disguise
How can I post my resume on the job search sites if I don’t want my employer to know I’m looking?
Answer
Many sites have an option to keep your name confidential and only reveal an email address. You can also keep your current employer’s name off of your resume by substituting a description (e.g., “leading bulge bracket investment bank” instead of Goldman Sachs). Keep in mind, though, that an effective job search means you put yourself out there—networking, replying to postings, going on interviews—so your boss has other opportunities to stumble upon your search and you might eventually need to deal with the often-awkward disclosure.
