A Case for Experience
I’m a career changer. How do I avoid being pigeon-holed to my past experience?
Answer
Incorporate the language, skills, and activities of your new target field wherever possible in your cover letter, resume, interview responses, and general networking conversations. Talk about what you’ve done honestly, but make a strong case for exactly how your experiences will translate to the new field. Don’t make your prospective employers guess how you will transition; show them you’ve thought it through and you have examples.
