I have a first round tomorrow for a small boutique investment management firm. They don’t have much info on their website. How do I find out more about them?
Answer
For future interviews, here are three things you can do in advance:
1. Set up a Google alert so mentions of your target firm will be emailed directly to you.
2. Canvas your alumni database for anyone has worked there and call them for an informational.
3. Look to trade associations and publications about investment management for information about your target.
But for tomorrow, because time is tight:
1. At least Google the firm name and read their press mentions. Also Google the senior management names and read their press mentions.
2. Search your LinkedIn connections for past employees or anyone who knows someone connected to the firm that you can call tonight.
3. Flip through your rolodex and ask the most informed people in your investment management network what they know about the firm.
