Highlights
Changed its name from Utilicorp United to Aquila, Inc. in 2002.
Aquila (pronounced ah-KWIL-uh) is the name of a constellation and Latin for "eagle."
Serves more than 910,000 electricity customers and 452,000 natural gas customers in six states.
Energy is at the core of Aquila, Inc.’s assets. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Aquila (formerly Utilicorp United) supplies customers in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska with natural gas and electricity. Over the past few years, Aquila has sold off or shut down most of its divisions to return to its core market and improve its credit rating, ceasing its operations in foreign countries to focus on its markets in the six states above. It has also removed itself from the area of transporting, gathering, processing, and storing natural gas, and it no longer provides cable television services.
