Acts as a holding company for Alaska Airlines, a top-ten U.S. air carrier, and Horizon Air Industries.
As a relatively small airline serving a huge state, Alaska Airlines, founded in 1932, has made the most of its chosen home in the Pacific Northwest. Now serving approximately 40 cities in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Canada, and Mexico with an all-jet fleet of around 110 planes, Alaska Airlines is the dominant carrier in this region and offers passengers full service at competitive prices. In 2005 the airline trumpeted plans to purchase 35 Boeing 737-800s between 2006 and 2011. Horizon Air's turboprop jets serve mostly commuters in 40 cities in Idaho, California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Canada. The vast majority of the company's revenue is generated by its passenger air service; only about one dollar out of every 20 the company earns comes from cargo service. As a top-ten U.S. airline, Alaska Air has no dearth of code-sharing partners, including American, Continental, KLM, and Northwest.
