But if it weren’t for Aflac’s ubiquitous ads featuring an outspoken duck, most Americans probably wouldn’t even know that there is such a thing as supplemental insurance—let alone that Aflac is the leading provider. Aflac Incorporated is the holding company for the American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus and The Columbus, Georgia–based company started out selling insurance in both Georgia and Alabama in 1955. The company has more than 60,000 licensed agents and offers products to more than 329,000 U.S. payroll groups. In 1974, Aflac became only the second American company to sell insurance in Japan; today, it serves one in four households in Japan. Aflac has the largest onsite child-care facilities in Georgia.
