Company Overview
Highlights
This agricultural equipment company’s brands include Massey Ferguson, the most widely sold tractor brand in the world.
Seventy-five percent of its sales come from outside the United States.
AGCO designs, manufactures, and sells agricultural equipment and operates sales offices around the world. It sells its products through a network of more than 3,600 dealers in 140 countries; the company is the largest distributor network in the industry. AGCO encourages dealers to stock its goods in accordance with local product popularity, thus maximizing sales. The company also distributes tractors for Italian manufacturer SAME Deutz-Fahr, which owns a 10 percent share in AGCO. Through a joint venture with Netherlands-based Rabobank, the company offers financing services to some customers and dealers. Through aggressive acquisition activity, AGCO has grown tremendously, extending its reach internationally, and it now receives most of its total revenues from outside the United States. Most recently it acquired Caterpillar's high-tech MT series tractor line, and Valtra, a global tractor and off-road engine maker, in an effort to expand its product line. The company is exploring potential growth in former Soviet republics, China, and other countries in which agriculture is becoming increasingly modernized.
