Company Overview
Highlights
Heavy hitters in its TV lineup include “Desperate Housewives,” “Lost,” and “Grey’s Anatomy”
Riding the three highlighted shows to success, ABC pulled out of a long slump to the No. 2 spot in the ratings behind CBS in 2004-05. Owned by Walt Disney, ABC Television Networks boasts 225 affiliates, 10 television stations, and 70 radio stations (which are on the block). In addition to television, the firm operates the ABC Radio Network, which provides radio programming to more than 4,800 affiliates. The network also produces Radio Disney, a format focused on children, and ESPN Radio, a sports network. ABC also owns stakes in ESPN, Lifetime, and other cable television channels. Mainstay “Monday Night Football” was a sentimental favorite, but lost the network about $150 million yearly. With MNF’s departure to sister network ESPN, ABC will attempt to stem the rampant losses with its National Basketball Association contract.
