If you’ve ever locked the keys in the car, odds are you’ve dealt with AAA. The organization formerly known as the American Automobile Association was founded in San Francisco in the early 1900s, when cars were a hobbyist's pastime instead of a common mode of transportation. A century later, AAA now offers a variety of services in addition to roadside assistance. Its financial services division offers a AAA/Visa credit card; its insurance division offers not only automobile insurance, but homeowners, renters, life, and flood insurance; and its travel services division books cruises and directs a chain of travel agencies across the U.S. AAA also publishes the monthly magazine Via, featuring articles about travel and motoring, some of which are available online.
